Reflection #4 on Powerpoint (February 20,2013)

According to the site http://homepage.cs.uri.edu/tutorials/csc101/powerpoint/power.html, PowerPoint is a complete presentation graphics package. It gives you everything you need to produce a professional-looking presentation. PowerPoint offers word processing, outlining, drawing, graphing, and presentation management tools- all designed to be easy to use and learn.

In today's class our schemas were broaden as to the techniques and functions of the a PowerPoint. Majority of teenagers today are aware of the use of a PowerPoint but there are some fundamental procedures that are overlooked. Today I have learned that the minimum standard text of a PowerPoint is 20-24 and all CAPITAL LETTERS should not be used in  a PowerPoint presentation among others.

A PowerPoint presentation can be used in in the classroom to teach various topics, these presentation can be shown in the form of word, hyperlink, video, audio and pictures. I never knew how to use these features on a PowerPoint presentation until today when wee were introduced to it. As a result of this I was able to create a PowerPoint using these features. This PowerPoint presentation can be use in the classroom so as to have an interactive classroom and I aim to use it.

Reflection #3 The ASSURE MODEL (February 6, 2013))

It is fascinating how technology can be used in many ways. Today in class we learn how to use the Assure Model to write a lesson plan and carry out a lesson using technological devices. The Assure Model is a procedural guide for planning and conducting instruction that incorporates media -assumes. The Assure Model is used for technology mediated lessons.
After learning about this new Model the lecturer walked us through an example of a lesson plan outline using the Assure Model.
It never took me a long while to learn to use this model but as I proceed in using this model I will be better at it. In pair we wrote a lesson plan using the method. As I reflect on the process of doing the lesson plan and also presenting the plan to the class, I became cognizant of how important the Assure Model is and how it can be use to enhance your lesson so that students will be quiet interactive in the lesson. I hope to use this method in the classroom as it is a very effective way a conducting a lesson.

Reflection # 2 on 'Blog' (January 30,2013)

Today’s class was quiet an informative one, seen that “Technology & Methodology Integration” is a technological course, every class will require of you to use a form of technology. Well, today the lecturer enlightened the class on a webpage by the name of “Blog”. A blog is an online journal (weblog) that allows users to post content and get feedback via comments.
As a prospective teacher, this weblog can be useful in the classroom as it can be used to facilitate an environment conducive to learning; this can facilitate students asking questions that were not clarified during a lesson In class, as such the teacher can give answers or feedback as to how students should approach a task. Blog can also be used to post assignments and important information for students.
I have created a blog so far and I am familiarizing myself with this webpage and it is interesting. I look forward to using this webpage in the classroom.

Sunday 3 February 2013

A pleasant afternoon everyone

I'm looking forward to class tomorrow. :)

Computer is definitely not one of my favourite areas of competence but after being introduced to a new course called "Technology and Methodology Integration" I have developed the zeal to be more cognizant of the significance of the computer. As a teacher in training, it is of vital importance to be aware of technology and how to integrate it in the classroom seeing that we are living in a technological driven era. Technology is a body of knowledge used to create tools, develop skills, and extract or collect materials and as such I want to be able to incorporate technology in my area of specialization so that students can become critical thinkers and innovators. As I reflect on the second day of class my schema was broaden as the different groups came to present on the theoretical framework for teaching with technology. The Multiple Intelligence by Howard Gardner stood out as I could relate it to the classroom. He speaks of eight intelligences and all these intelligences can be met using technology. One that stood out most was the musical intelligence. There are programs that can be used to compose music which are; Sibelius and finale, using this program is less time consuming, amongst that is a reason program used to make instrumental pieces etc.I find this class quite interesting and I hope to learn more so that I can help students to be more creative.

Today is a lovely day.
